Biography
I was born in North Tarrytown, NY in 1962, the year the Rolling Stones started making
music together. My birthplace has been officially renamed Sleepy Hollow. My family
moved from Ardsley, NY to Huntsville, AL and then to Satellite Beach, FL where I lived
until 1969. From the mellow sunshine washed beaches of Florida we moved to the red
clay soil of Oklahoma City, OK. It wasn’t ok, I missed the ocean.

I attended a Graphic Arts vocational technical program at El Reno, OK during my junior
and senior years of high school. This was an excellent, college level program due entirely
to the instructor, Gene Hartsell. The last semester of high school I was employed as a
display ad artist for a local classified paper in OKC where I learned, among other things,
the meaning of deadline. I was accepted to the Quartz Mountain Summer Arts program in
1980 and enrolled in the Printmaking studio. My love of screen printing began there. The
late Dan Kiacz was the instructor from the University of Oklahoma.

Filled with confidence and looking to further my art education, I visited three Art Institutes,
San Francisco, Chicago and Kansas City. KCAI seemed like the best fit. I attended KCAI
for two years and was in the Foundations Department my first year. The next year I
enrolled in the Ceramics Department for a semester and then the Printmaking
Department my last semester. I took what I thought was a job for the summer at a
commercial screen printing plant. My position rapidly became Art Director and I did not
return to KCAI. I rented a house at 44th and Warwick and opened an art gallery there
with the help of my roommate, Greg Rogers. The gallery landscape in Kansas City is
vastly different today than it was in 1982. The Snyder-Rogers Gallery was one of many
pioneers who have improved the art community in Kansas City.

I moved into a loft in the River Market area of KC in 1987. 3,500 square feet!  A few
months later, the owner sold the building, which breached the terms of my lease. He was
moving his business to another property he owned in the West Bottoms and agreed to
transfer my lease to the 4th floor of this property. We started our screen printing
company there in May of 1993 and I married Jennifer in October of the same year.

In 1997 my wife and I purchased the building located at 1400 Union Ave. We remodeled
the 1st floor of the building and opened a model train retail store in March of 2002. Jen
and I presently operate both the commercial printing business and the model train store.

I returned to my artistic roots and began printing limited edition serigraphs in February
2006. In the fall of 2007 I enrolled in a continuing education course on Sculptural Welding
at KCAI. John Northington was the instructor. I had never done anything like this before
and John has taught me a great deal. I have been collecting metal objects for a very long
time. The warehouse is full of strange items and I'm finally able to transform them into
sculpture. I plan to continue this through the summer at John's studio. My mother grew up
in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania so I feel that I have working with steel in my heritage.
